debeaked to stop possible pecking at each other
Antibiotics and growth hormone administration:
The chicks are given antibiotics and growth
hormones that cause extremely fast deveopment
Broiler houses:
The birds spend about 2 months in cramped,
feces-filled broiler houses
Transport to slaughterhouse:
Chickens are thrown into plastic crates that are
stacked on the backs of trucks. Chickens can
freeze or overheat on the way as they are not protected from the weather
Slaughter:
Conscious chickens are hung in racks by their feet.
Chickens are stunned at such a low voltage that
they are still alive when their throats are slit and
are dipped into scalding water for feather removal
